Blind-Hole vs Through-Hole Clinching Nuts: Differences and Use

Blind-Hole vs Through-Hole Clinching Nuts: Differences and Use

Clinching nuts come in open-end and closed-end (blind/sealed) styles. In sheet metal design, they differ in water sealing, thread depth and cost.

Structure and Sealing

Open-end nuts are through-bored, allowing bolts to pass through; lower cost with full thread length, but moisture and dust can enter from the back. Blind-end nuts are closed on one side, sealing the panel after installation against liquids, gases and dust—ideal for weatherproof enclosures.

Grip Range and Thread Length

The open style offers longer thread engagement for a given size; the blind style has slightly shorter thread but blocks intrusion. Always select the correct "grip range" series for panel thickness.

Selection Advice

For general electrical cabinets without sealing needs, open-end nuts offer best cost. For outdoor gear, waterproof boxes, medical and food machinery, choose blind-end. Note blind-end nuts are not suitable where bolts must pass through. Confirm pilot hole and press force before installation.
