Clinching nuts are installed by press force that presses the serrated clinching ring into the sheet. Insufficient pressure causes loose clinching, rotation or pull-out, while excessive pressure may damage the sheet or nut. Correct tonnage selection and pressure setting are essential.
Common manual clinching presses range from 6 to 20 tons, while pneumatic and hydraulic presses serve batch production. Clinching force should be set by nut size, sheet material and thickness, typically 30-60 kN for M3-M4, 60-100 kN for M5-M6 and 100-150 kN for M8-M10, subject to process trials.
Each clinching nut has an applicable sheet thickness (grip) range. Too-thin sheets cause punching through or weak clinching; too-thick sheets prevent full serration engagement. Always select per the specification table.
Loose clinching usually results from insufficient force or oversize sheets; sheet distortion from excessive force or poor lower support; tilted nuts from misalignment or unbalanced force. Verify the process window with clinching tests and calibrate press gauges regularly.
