Blind rivet nuts (also called rivet nuts or threaded inserts) create durable internal threads in thin panels and tubes from a single accessible side. A dedicated tool pulls the mandrel, causing the nut body to collapse and bulge on the blind side into a secondary head that clamps the panel securely while preserving a full thread for subsequent bolted assembly.
Single-sided installation is the defining benefit. Rivet nuts excel in enclosed sections, square and round tubing, and complex geometries where the back side is unreachable—applications where clinch nuts and weld nuts are impractical. Material and thickness compatibility is broad. Rivet nuts install in panels from 0.5 mm to 6.0 mm, including cold-rolled steel, stainless steel, aluminum, copper, plastics, and composites. Head styles (flat, countersunk, reduced flange) and body profiles (smooth, vertical-grip, hexagonal) can be matched to substrate hardness and grip conditions.

Carbon-steel rivet nuts (10B21/35K) with heat treatment offer tensile strength above 500 MPa; SUS304 stainless versions serve corrosive environments. A typical M6 carbon-steel rivet nut in 1.5 mm SPCC delivers pull-out force exceeding 3000 N and torque-out around 15 N·m. Installation is fast and distortion-free. The cold-forming process avoids weld heat, discoloration, and spatter, making rivet nuts ideal for cosmetic and precision sheet-metal assemblies. Pneumatic tools install each nut in 2–3 seconds. Selection should match the panel thickness to the nut's grip range, use sealed variants for waterproofing, and verify pilot-hole diameter (e.g., Φ9.0 mm for a standard flat-head M6 rivet nut).
