Clinching Nut Pilot Hole Size Table and Pressing Notes

Clinching Nut Pilot Hole Size Table and Pressing Notes

A correct pilot hole is the first condition for a secure clinching nut. Too large leaves it loose; too small cracks the panel or prevents seating.

Common Pilot Hole Reference

M3 about 4.2-4.5mm, M4 about 5.4-5.7, M5 about 6.2-6.5, M6 about 7.6-7.9, M8 about 9.1-9.4, M10 about 11.2-11.5. Manufacturers vary; follow product datasheets.

Pressing Notes

Place the nut in the hole and press vertically with a flat ram until the nut flange sits flush. Pressure should deform the clinching neck without over-pressing and bulging the panel. Confirm grip range for thin sheets; use lower force on aluminum than steel.

Inspection

Sample pull-out and torque-out after pressing. Nuts must not spin or pull out. Visually check for panel bulging or cracks.

The clinching nut range ships with pilot hole and press-in parameter tables.
