Technical Guide for Press Rivet Nut Selection and Installation

Technical Guide for Press Rivet Nut Selection and Installation

Press rivet nuts (S/CLS/SP/BS series) are core fasteners for sheet metal assembly. Selection and installation directly affect connection strength, sealing performance and equipment life. This guide provides professional instructions from five dimensions: material, specification, selection, installation and troubleshooting.

1. Main Materials and Application Scenarios

1. Type S (carbon steel): Cost-effective, suitable for general sheet metal and cabinets, needs zinc plating or blackening for rust prevention. 2. Type CLS (304 stainless steel): Rust and corrosion resistant, suitable for humid, outdoor and medical equipment. 3. Type SP (stainless iron): High strength and moderate cost, suitable for electronics and home appliances. 4. Aluminum alloy: Lightweight, suitable for new energy vehicles and aerospace. 5. Type BS (blind hole/sealing): Closed bottom, waterproof and dustproof, suitable for battery packs and outdoor cabinets.

2. Key Points for Specification Selection

1. Thread size: M2–M12, selected according to load and assembly requirements. 2. Sheet adaptation: Minimum thickness 0.8mm, hardness of carbon steel/stainless steel sheets <70RB/80RB respectively. 3. Hole diameter control: Tolerance 0–+0.075mm, prefer punching to avoid oversized holes causing loosening. 4. Tooth profile matching: Select corresponding tooth profile according to sheet material to ensure riveting strength.

3. Installation Process Standards

1. Clean sheet holes without burrs and oil stains. 2. Insert the nut into the hole with the guide groove facing the riveting direction. 3. Apply pressure evenly with special riveting equipment to ensure the knurling is fully embedded in the sheet. 4. Post-installation inspection: No loosening, no deformation, flat back surface. 5. Torque test: Recheck with standard torque to ensure torsional resistance meets requirements.

4. Common Issues and Solutions

1. Loosening: Oversized hole / mismatched material → Reselect size / material. 2. Cam-out: Excessive torque / mismatched tool → Control torque / use special tools. 3. Water leakage: Non-sealing type / improper installation → Select BS sealing type / standard pressure application. 4. Breakage: Inferior material / overload → Use qualified materials / match load specifications.
